Colour temperature - the temperature of a black body at which it emits radiation of the same chromaticity as the radiation under consideration. In other words, it is an objective measure of the color impression of a given light source, for example:

Examples are: 2000 K - candle light, 2800 K - incandescent light, 5000 K - cool white light, 6500 K - daylight.
A higher color temperature corresponds to cooler colors, while a lower color temperature corresponds to warmer colors.
It influences the atmosphere, appearance and perception of the surroundings. Depending on your needs, you can choose light sources with the appropriate color temperature.
It depends on context and preferences. For example, a warm atmosphere may be suitable for relaxation, while cool light may be better suited for work.
