What's flickering in the lighting?
If an LED lamp is not constantly bright but changes brightness from time to time, this is called flickering. What causes LEDs to flicker? If you're asking yourself this question, you've come to the right place!
Flashing with an LED dimmer?
It is relatively common for LED lamps to flicker when dimming. Important: Not all LED lamps are dimmable. Flashing lights very frequently means you have a non-dimmable LED bulb connected to a dimmer.
Do not use a dimmer used for halogen lamps. Why? You should be aware that dimmers for halogen lamps have a relatively high minimum power. This minimum power is much higher than the power of an LED lamp. If you want to dim LED lighting properly, you should use a special LED dimmer. This way you can avoid flickering.
Power changes
Why do LEDs flash? Various changes in power supply can also cause this problem. It should be emphasized that modern LED lamps are very sensitive to changes in supply voltage. In this case, the lamps do not flash constantly. Your LED lamp may flicker, e.g. B. if a heavy appliance (washing machine, refrigerator, etc.) is turned on at the same time. In this case, the LEDs only flash when the washing machine or dishwasher is turned on. This problem is actually not big. Do you still want to fix it? If so, it is worth switching heavy appliances in your home to a power group other than LED lighting.
Faulty lamps
Power changes or a bad dimmer will not always cause LEDs to flicker. Sometimes the flickering lights are damaged! Do you have an LED bulb that was working fine but recently started flickering? Your driver is probably damaged. Sometimes the driver is damaged when the LED lamp overheats. If it is a lamp with an external controller, replacing it is not particularly complicated. If your damaged LED lamp is equipped with an internal driver, unfortunately it cannot be repaired.
