In PIR sensors, motion detection is based on a very precise temperature measurement. Any temperature change to a higher or lower temperature (e.g. a blast of cold air into a heated room) is triggering the sensor.
Specification
PIR (Passive Infrared Sensors) in lighting control play an important role in automatically switching lights on and off according to the presence of movement. PIR sensors are equipped with the ability to detect movement based on local temperature changes in the detection field. When the sensor detects movement, it initiates an appropriate response, such as switching on the light or selecting a scene. PIR technology offers very high sensitivity to rapid changes such as human movement. When movement is detected, the sensor sends a control signal to the lighting control system. Some PIR sensors allow sensitivity to be adjusted, and special irises can limit the directionality of detection, making it possible to adapt their operation to specific conditions. PIR sensors also often have the ability to set how long the light stays on when motion is detected. This allows you to adjust how long the light remains on after leaving the sensor's detection field. Many of the PIR sensors offered by Lena Lighting S.A. also have a daylight detection function, so luminaires can automatically dim to maintain a constant level of brightness in the room throughout the day.
Application
PIR (Passive Infrared Sensors) will find use in many places where lighting control based on the presence of movement is desirable. Here are some examples of where PIR sensors can be used to control lighting:
Offices and workplaces: In offices, production halls or other workplaces, PIR sensors can control lighting based on the presence of employees. Lights will only switch on when movement is detected, which contributes to energy savings.
Shops and shopping centres: In shops and shopping centres, PIR sensors can help ensure that the right lighting is provided in the right places. They can respond to customer movement by switching on lighting near shelves or sections where there is activity, and switching it off in less frequented areas.
Public spaces: PIR sensors can be used in public areas such as corridors in public buildings, stairways, car parks or toilets. By controlling lighting based on the presence of movement, they help to ensure adequate lighting levels while saving energy.
Exterior lighting: PIR sensors are also used in outdoor lighting, for example in gardens, terraces or around buildings. Motion detection allows the lighting to be switched on automatically when someone approaches the building or walks through the yard.
Public toilets: In public toilets, PIR sensors can control the lighting, turning it on only when there is user presence. This is an efficient solution that saves energy and ensures adequate lighting when the toilet is used.
