In order to classify electrical products, various labeling systems are used, such as the degree of IP protection. For example, an IP65 luminaire is a term that describes hermetic lamps, which have specific parameters that enable their use in harsh industrial conditions. These luminaires are resistant to, among other things, against the influence of moisture and dust, and are also protected against the jet of water falling from any direction. In the further part of the text, we explain how to interpret the markings of the IP tightness class.
How to use the IP protection levels?
The name of the IP code is an abbreviation of International Protecting Rating. LED lighting manufacturer through this code indicates the degree of protection guaranteed by the device housing against factors such as penetration of foreign solids or undesirable access to dangerous elements inside the product.
In order to better present the meaning of the tightness class, we analyzed its meaning on a specific example. The IP65 luminaire in addition to the letter designation also has a numerical designation consisting of two digits. Therefore, it is worth knowing that each of them is treated separately and is a carrier of separate information on specific safety and tightness standards of a given electrical product. The first digit of the IP65 luminaire means the protection factor against contamination and against human and animal access. The second value is the water protection level.
So what does hermetic IP65 luminaire guarantee to users?
When interpreting the safety and security standards it meets, we can be sure that:
- has an appropriate structure and protection of electrical parts to completely exclude damage to the light source due to dust and dust and to prevent hazards resulting from touching elements not secured with a wire (these data have been assigned to the first digit, i.e. 6 ),
- the luminaire is not able to damage the stream of water with an intensity of up to 12.5 l / min, regardless of whether it was directed indirectly or directly at such an industrial lamp (data marked with number 5).
As you can see, the use of the IP tightness class allows to clearly describe the properties of the hermetic IP65 luminaire . This enables the customer to make a responsible purchasing decision and protects him from choosing an unsuitable product.
