The ‘Rozświetlamy Polskę’ (Lighting up Poland) programme, which in 2024 offered local governments up to 80% funding for the modernisation of street lighting, revealed the enormous needs of entire municipalities and counties. To date, 1,639 applications have been submitted, and 1,214 of them have been approved for funding. However, more than half of the country's infrastructure still needs to be upgraded. The largest part of this is energy-intensive sodium lamps with a power of 50 to 400 W, generating energy consumption of around 1.5 TWh per year.
